Opening exhibits

Battle Ground Public Schools Student Art Show, May 13-17. See hundreds of creative works by students artists from every grade level at Captain Strong Primary School, 1002 N.W. Sixth Ave., Battle Ground, including 3D sculptures, ceramics, drawings, digital art, photography and paintings. A public reception will be held on May 13 at 4:30 p.m. at Captain Strong, at which the first-place, grand-prize and best-of-show winners will be awarded. The school building will remain open until 8 p.m. that evening for the art show. The public is invited to view the art free of charge from 4:30 to 8 p.m. May 13, 4 to 6:30 p.m. May 14 and 5 to 8 p.m. May 17.

Washougal Studio Artists Tour, May 11-12, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. both days. This self-guided tour, which follows a route along the scenic Washougal River and through the foothills, features 11 stops and 19 local artists representing an array of creative works and mediums. “Reef Fish of the Pacific,” through May. Artist Jeffrey Hill, who divides his time between Vancouver and Hawaii, will exhibit his papier-m?ch? fish in the display case of the Camas Public Library. Most of the fish are realistic representations of the fish found in Hawaii and the Western Pacific, along with a few fanciful fish, as well. Camas Public Library, 625 N.E. Fourth Ave., Camas. “Mind’s Eye” Photography Exhibit by Blind and Visually Impaired Students, through May. See eighteen photographs taken by visually impaired and blind students. The students collaborated with sighted volunteers to create images from the student’s “Mind’s Eye,” and the students themselves took the shots. Vancouver City Hall Lobby, 415 W. Sixth St., Vancouver; free. Viewing hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays.

Heidi Jo Curley and Anna Norris, through May. Curley is a mixed media artist, working with acrylic and oil paints, watercolors, pastels, gesso, charcoal and ink. She uses gel mediums, paper and vintage scraps to layer and add texture to cradled wooden canvases. Norris is also an acrylic and oil painter who uses intense colors and layers color in shadows, creating water that seems to move and an interplay of light on surfaces. “From Barcelona to Portland: Urban Works,” through May. Contemporary artist John Kay focuses on bridging the gap between photography and fine art. Kay incorporates discarded bits of colorful torn posters to create collages, bringing both elements together as one piece. Aurora Gallery, 1004 Main St., Vancouver. “Big Skies and Small Wonders,” through May 25. This dual show features expansive landscapes that form a background for three-dimensional floral stems made of polymer clay. Middle School Art Exhibit, through May 31. Vancouver High Schools Student Photography Show: “Everyday Heroes,” through June 2. An installation by students from Skyview and Hudson’s Bay high schools and Vancouver School of Arts and Academics is on display at the Vancouver Community Library, 901 C St. Vancouver — part of a global art project called Inside Out, in which participants share their portraits and make statements about what they stand for. The subjects in the photos were nominated for their “everyday heroism.” The large-scale portraits, measuring 36-by-53 inches each, will be visible from Evergreen and C streets and from inside the library.

“High Contrast: Light and Line, Shape and Form,” through June 29. This exhibit features the work of KC Madsen and Noah Matteucci.
