A woman who allegedly assaulted someone with a baseball bat led to a car chase that ended with her arrest in Cowlitz County.

Hillary C. Rick, 30, was booked in the Clark County Jail on suspicion of several counts of second-degree assault and attempting to elude police, according to a Clark County Sheriff’s Office news release.

Deputies were dispatched at 6:23 a.m. Friday to investigate an assault report. Once they arrived, it was determined Rick was the suspect, according to the sheriff’s office.

Another deputy, who knows Rick, spotted her speeding away from the scene. The deputy tried to stop the car but she took off, and a pursuit began, the sheriff’s office said.

The deputy and a Battle Ground police officer chased Rick up state Highway 503 into Cowlitz County, where one of the law enforcement officers stopped her car using a Pursuit Intervention Technique, or PIT, maneuver.

The sheriff’s office said Rick rammed into the deputy’s vehicle and headed south on the highway toward additional responding units.

Deputies deployed spike strips and once again used a PIT maneuver just south of where Rick crashed into the deputy, the sheriff’s office said.

“The driver then intentionally rammed two patrol vehicles before being forced into the ditch where the driver, Hillary Rick, and her passenger were taken into custody,” the news release says.

The sheriff’s office did not identify Rick’s passenger.

Rick was taken to a hospital for a medical evaluation before being booked into jail.
