Rep. Jaime Herrera Beutler, R-Battle Ground, gave birth to her third child Tuesday.

In a Twitter announcement on Thursday, the congresswoman introduced her new baby girl as Isana Mae Beutler.

“It made me smile when I realized that Isana, which means strong-willed woman, was born on the Women’s Suffrage Centennial. We’re healthy and doing well,” Herrera Beutler wrote. The name has German origins.

Isana is Herrera Beutler’s third child since she was first elected to Congress in 2010 — she and her husband, Daniel, have another daughter, Abigail, and son, Ethan.

In a message to The Columbian, Herrera Beutler wrote that the name Isana was Abigail’s idea.

“We liked it. Abigail is into revolutionary history and she was listening to a story hour about Paul Revere’s life and role in the American Revolution. He had an infant daughter named Isana and we thought it was pretty. We looked up what it meant and decided it was right for her.”

Earlier Tuesday, a visibly pregnant Herrera Beutler filmed a brief video in front of the House of Representatives celebrating the 100th anniversary of women gaining the right to vote.

With the birth of her third child, Herrera Beutler joins an exclusive club. In all of United States history, only one other member of Congress has given birth three times while in office: Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers-R, Spokane.

Over the past few months, Herrera Beutler has been vocal on issues pertaining to pregnancy and childbirth. On Monday, she made headlines with a letter to Nike’s chief executive urging better treatment of pregnant athletes with company sponsorships. On May 16, she spoke on the House floor about maternal mortality.
