Skyview High School junior Payton May was crowned Miss Washington’s Outstanding Teen during last weekend’s competition in Burien, the first Clark County winner in a dozen years. Genay Tucker won the title in 2007.

Clark County had three other representatives who had each previously won local competitions: AnnMarie Vickery, Miss Clark County’s Outstanding Teen; Sandra Fachiol, Miss Columbia River’s Outstanding Teen; and Danielle Grawonski, Miss LaCenter’s Outstanding Teen.

Teens are judged based on a private interview, talent portion and evening gown portion where they’re asked questions on stage.

For her talent, Payton sang “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” and her social impact platform was getting people registered to vote. As the overall winner, she will advance to Miss America’s Outstanding Teen competition in Florida at the end of July.

She secured a $5,000 scholarship and a bevy of other prizes, including a wardrobe allowance, travel fund, jewelry and luggage. Payton was crowned Miss Clark County’s Outstanding Teen last year and Miss Greater Vancouver’s Outstanding Teen this year.

Miss Clark County is an official preliminary to the Miss Washington and Miss America programs. The goal of the Miss Clark County Scholarship Organization is to provide scholarships to young women in Clark County. Information about the group’s mission is online at www.missclarkcountywa.org. This year is the 70th anniversary of Miss Clark County.
