Letter: Schools should teach kids about sex

I believe that sex ed should be taught in public schools. I know that this is a very controversial topic and has many viewpoints around the world, however, the knowledge of learning about health is essential to humans. Sex ed is a part of health and should be taught in high school along with other health-related topics, like mental health and drugs. At my high school, health was part of my graduation requirement and part of health was sex ed. Some schools are trying to change this and are trying to make sex ed not allowed to be taught because it goes against religious or family beliefs. I can see how this is upsetting people and how sex ed can be portrayed. People think abortion and same-sex intercourse will ruin their children’s lives and sway them a certain direction, but that is not what we need to be taught. Kids need to be taught about body changes, HIV, AIDS and other similar issues. I would like your help to get the word out there so we can all be educated on important health and sex-related topics.
