Letter: Hybrid owners treated unfairly

By Bob Waber, Battle Ground

It often seems like one hand of government doesn’t know what the other hand is doing, or doesn’t even care. Washington state is trying to encourage everyone to produce less carbon pollution. Many are in accordance with this goal, and my household has spent a great deal of extra money to purchase a hybrid car such as Prius.

None of us ever expected we would suddenly be subjected to an annual $75 penalty on our car tabs to be used to create facilities for plug-in cars. Hybrid cars do not plug in; we will never use what we are being forced to pay for. Whose brilliant idea was it to single out this group for unfair treatment?

Better to put a small tax on fuel that would create an incentive to pollute less. I think I am going to buy a big gas guzzler truck. … Anyone want to buy a used Prius?
