The Vancouver Symphony Orchestra seeks young musicians for its 26th Annual Young Artists Competition on Jan. 12, with the winners performing with the VSO on April 18 and 19, as well as being awarded scholarship prizes of $3,000 for first place, $1500 for second and $750 for third. Applications must be received by 4 p.m. Dec. 3. Students age 18 or younger as of Jan. 1 who reside in Washington or Oregon are eligible to compete in the categories of piano, strings and brass/woodwinds/percussion. Vancouver Community Concert Band seeks brass, woodwind and percussion players, active or retired. All abilities welcome; no audition required. The volunteer community band, along with its polka band, Dixieland Jazz Band and chamber ensembles, performs regularly around the area.
