Two motorcyclists suffered life-threatening injuries in a three-vehicle crash Wednesday night in Vancouver’s West Minnehaha neighborhood.

Police, fire and medical crews were dispatched at 6:30 p.m. to Northeast St. James Road and Northeast 49th Street. The collision involved a small green SUV along with the two motorcycles, Vancouver Fire Department spokesman Joe Hudson said.

One of the motorcyclists needed to be pulled from underneath the rear of the SUV, Hudson said. Both men were taken to PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center for treatment, while the driver of the SUV was not treated.

The Vancouver Police Department Traffic Unit is investigating the cause and other specifics of the crash, Police Cpl. Roger Evans said. Northeast St. James Road was closed a few blocks south of the intersection for several hours during the investigation.

One fire engine, a ladder truck, a heavy rescue truck and a battalion chief responded to the scene, Hudson said.
