Letter: Do the right thing

We all want ethical actions and fairness in our politics. If a Democratic president asked Vladimir Putin to investigate candidate Donald Trump’s dealings in Russia, prior to an election, would that cross a line? What if this same president sent our troops to guard foreign oil interests on foreign soil, would that be honoring the pledge made toward getting us out of needless conflicts?

And, what if this Democratic president even had the gall, through presidential decree, to remove the budget money from the domestic housing of these same troops and use that money toward a pedestrian bridge to Mexico that Congress did not fund? Would the House of Representatives stand for that? Would my representative be truthful in her heart and be willing to say that this is really OK and judge these actions as fair?

We can’t have it both ways; these actions are wrong regardless of who is in power. Wrong is wrong.

Can I count on Rep. Jaime Herrera Beutler, R-Battle Ground, to ignore her political loyalties and stand up for me because it is the right thing to do? Let’s watch and see how this plays out.
