I was disappointed to read that the two brick buildings that were part of the original Academy complex are being considered for demolition. Vancouver has already lost too many beautiful and historic buildings from our past. It seems too easy for someone to make the case that “it’s too expensive to repair, restore or maintain these buildings.”
I challenge The Historic Trust and the owners of The Academy property to think outside the box and to find a way to rescue these unique and beautiful structures. The craftsmanship and design of these buildings represent a time capsule worth saving. They are a link to our past and part of our history. Once they’re gone … they’re gone forever.
I am certain that these important buildings can be repurposed in order to make them profitable, and to enhance the future development that is being planned.
