Clark County students receive scholarships from Building Futures Foundation

SHUMWAY — The Building Futures Foundation, a nonprofit extension of the Building Industry Association of Clark County, recently awarded nine area students with academic scholarships and six electrical apprentices with $500 grants for tools. It’s the first year the program included candidates pursuing trades and included a partnership with the Construction Industry Training Council of Washington. “It has been a longtime goal of the foundation to create an avenue for supporting skilled trades people who are the life blood of our industry,” said Avaly Scarpelli, executive director for both the Building Futures Foundation and the BIA. Tool Grant recipients were Austin Moburg of Longview, an Advanced Electrical Technologies employee; Jose Mora, a Bullseye Electric employee; Rio Koford, a U.S. Marine Corps veteran; Ryan Hurley, a Castle Rock High School graduate; Tad Catlin; and Tanner Greene, a Skyview High School and Clark College graduate. Scholarship recipients for students in Clark County pursuing a professional career in the building industry included Alex Tetz, a University of Washington student; Alicia Wallingford, a Columbia River High School graduate; Bo Brabec, a Cedar Tree Classical Christian School graduate; Ellie Josephson, a Portland State University student; Eli Loudenback, a Cedar Tree Classical Christian School graduate; James Carmona, a La Center High School graduate; Kyle Brabec, a Hockinson High School graduate; Marissa Hunter, a Cedar Tree Classical Christian School graduate; and Michael Cline, a Camas High School graduate.
