Columbia-White Salmon’s Bowen Durkee and Austin Charters combined for 214 yards rushing and four touchdowns as the visitors cruised to a 42-0 1A Trico League victory over Seton Catholic on Saturday.

The Bruins took a 14-0 lead after Seton Catholic’s first offensive possession, on Charters’ 92 yard interception return. During that drive, the Cougars drove 52 yards in 11 plays before Charters stepped in front of a Luke Pitzer fourth-down pass and sprinted for the score with five minutes remaining in the first quarter.

Columbia extended its lead in the second quarter on a pair of Durkee touchdown runs, the latter of which was scored with 24 seconds remaining for a 27-0 halftime lead.

Seton Catholic’s offense had difficulties against a Bruin defense that would keep four Cougar possessions inside the Columbia 10 yard line from scoring. Of those four possessions, two ended in interceptions, both by Charters.

Seton Catholic’s time-possession offense would keep the explosive Bruin offense off the field for much of the game. When the Bruins’ offense was on the field, they scored on five of their first seven possessions, with two possessions ending with lost fumbles.

The Bruins offense had possession only once in the third quarter, thanks to a six-minute, second half opening drive by the Cougars. That drive ended with a turnover on downs, but the Bruins would fumble the ball back to Seton Catholic at the Bruins’ 10.

The Cougars would move the ball to the Bruins 1 yard line, turning the ball over on downs again after an incomplete pass.

Columbia would then march 99 yards in 11 plays, consuming 5 minutes of the 4th quarter, to put the lead at 35-0 with 5:29 remaining to play. Angel Sanchez would end Seton Catholic’s hopes on the next series’ first play with an interception.

Columbia (3-3) hosts King’s Way Christian next Friday. Seton Catholic (3-2) hosts Morton-White Pass next Saturday.
