Letter: We have choice to protect Earth

I appreciate the fact that the writer of “Our creator controls climate” believes in God as our creator, as I do as well (Our Readers’ Views, Oct. 7). However, He is not the one polluting our Earth; people are. Our use of fossil fuels is causing global warming. There is no argument that the Earth is warming. The oceans are warming. Storms, floods, droughts are growing more severe. There are cities so polluted that people can’t go outside without masks. This is not created by God, but by people.

God gave us the power of choice. Our choice is to protect our planet or not. Is it not best to err on the side of science than to disregard it? If you are wrong, the world you love dies. If you are right, then nothing we do saves it.

Wouldn’t it be best to do your part to try to save Earth, rather than throw up your hands and say, “Nothing I do matters, it’s in God’s hands?” Yes, there have been major climate changes before, but they have been due to disastrous causes in the early beginnings of our planet. What kind of air do you want to breathe? Please, give it some thought.
