Prep highlights: Columbia River’s Keller wins 2A district tennis singles title

Columbia River’s Wilson Keller earned a return trip to the 2A state boys tennis tournament in May.

This time he’s going as a district singles champion.

Keller defeated teammate Matt Rudi 6-4, 6-3 in the 2A district final on Friday at Mint Valley Racket Club in Longview.

Keller placed sixth in doubles at state last year.

Defending 2A state doubles champions Gabe Slind and Ben Haukaas of Mark Morris added a third district title to their r?sum? by beating Columbia River’s Max Firstenburg and Alex Miller 6-1, 6-0. Both doubles teams have qualified for state.

Also earning a state berth in doubles is Ridgefield’s team of Jonah Kropp and Mikey Nester. They placed third with a three-set comeback victory over Jospeh Chung and Cade Cameron of W.F. West 4-6, 6-3, 6-4.

Columbia River came away with the team title, racking up 26 points. Ridgefield and Mark Morris tied for second with 10 points.

1A district boys golf

La Center won the 1A district golf team title for the first time and is sending four players to the state tournament in May.

Collin Newberry tied for third place with Ty Mairs of King’s Way Christian. Both finished Friday with a two-day total of 165 at Tri-Mountain Golf Course.

Michael Jump of Hoquiam was the medalist with a 154.

The top 11 golfers qualified for state.

Also moving on for La Center is Cole Entenman (167), Caeden Fender (169) and Aaron Sundahl (170).

Along with Mairs, Aiden Pisarczyk (174) qualified for state from King’s Way.

Union wins 4A district slowpitch crown

The Union slowpitch softball team won the 4A district title on Friday, beating Skyview 15-5 in the final at Fort Vancouver.

Details from the final game were not reported.

Both teams advance to the state tournament in Yakima.

Skyview reached the final with a 12-5 win over Heritage. Mailie Stover was 3 for 4 with two home runs and a triple plus four RBI and three runs scored.

Union beat Camas in the second semifinal 11-5. Ashley Griffith, Kamryn Buck and Samantha Pease each had three hits for the Titans.
