Letter: Can’t ignore climate change

Climate change impacts the whole world but it is most prominent in North America. According to nature.org, “The United States is the second largest emitter, after China, of carbon dioxide from the burning of fossil fuels.” Being a fairly large country, we use a lot of energy, which is why we are a big contributor to climate change.

Nature.org also says, “Climate change isn’t a distant threat — it is happening now.” Climate change used to be a botheration that was slowly happening and not that many people cared about it or thought it was fake. It’s more progressive now than ever.

During the Obama administration, he informed the EPA to take steps to regulate carbon dioxide emissions from coal-powered plants. Under the Trump administration, America is the only major nation that is not part of the Paris Agreement. America withdrew from the Paris Agreement when President Trump stated that climate change was a Chinese hoax. Our health, security and economy are at risk because of climate change and if we don’t do something about it soon, we might not have much longer on earth.
