The National Weather Service in Portland says strong winds will begin Monday night in Clark County.
The weather service issued a wind advisory that takes effect at 10 p.m. and will remain in place until 7 a.m. Tuesday.
Vancouver, Battle Ground, Ridgefield, Washougal, Yacolt and Amboy are among the affected communities, which also includes the Portland metro.
East winds of 15 to 25 mph with gusts between 40 to 50 mph are forecasted, according to the advisory.
“Tree limbs and even a few large trees could be uprooted. Isolated to scattered power outages can be expected,” the advisory says.
Most areas under advisory, like Washington and Clackamas counties in Oregon, can expect gusts around 30 to 40 mph, the weather service said. However, Clark County and Multnomah County, Ore., should expect to receive the worst of the forceful blows, particularly around Interstate 205.
“Winds, particularly in Multnomah and Clark counties will likely increase rather suddenly between 10 p.m. Monday and 4 a.m. Tuesday. There may be a brief lull in the winds toward sunrise before gusty winds pick back up and spread across the rest of the Portland metro toward mid to late morning,” the advisory says.
Winds will slowly decrease across most of the metro and become confined to the mouth of the Columbia River Gorge Tuesday night through Thursday, the weather service said.
Residents are being encouraged to use caution when driving, especially if operating a high-profile vehicle, and to secure outdoor objects.
