Letter: Republicans abandon high ground

As we enter the last tortured 15 months of this presidential travesty, I’m struck by what we can expect from the Republican machine post-2021.

After four years of Republicans’ defense of Trump’s philandering, obfuscations, lies, ignorance, petulance, immaturity, name-calling, cruelty and hypocrisy, I am left wondering just how the self-righteous pearl-clutchers on the right can possibly criticize anyone or anything in the future. Their “moral majority” tag has been utterly destroyed. Their extreme philosophical “flexibility” paints them as panderers and opportunists, their base forever labeled as racist, white nationalist, party-above-country ideologues.

If Trump’s sworn enemies are anti-fascists, then he must be fascist by definition, a term coined by Mussolini in the ’30s, by the way. Ex-Republican National Committee Chair Michael Steele said, “Just shut the hell up and don’t ever preach to me about anything ever again. I don’t want to hear it, because after telling me how to live my life, who to love, what to believe, what not to believe, what to do and what not to do, and now you sit back.”
