First Friday

Vancouver

Art galleries and local businesses celebrate this month’s art shows with a First Friday Art Walk in downtown Vancouver from 5 to 9 p.m. Visitors can enjoy opening receptions and light refreshments at art galleries, after-hours shopping, dining and drink specials, live music and other events. www.vdausa.org

Camas

First Fridays in Camas are themed, family-friendly events from 5 to 8 p.m. when galleries stay open late for artist receptions. Guests can also enjoy after-hours shopping, dining and additional activities inspired by the month’s theme. downtowncamas.com

First Saturday

First Saturday Art Sale, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The historic yellow Slocum House will open its doors for a pop-up art show and sale featuring artwork from Mosaic Arts Alliance. The next First Saturday sale is Oct. 5. Slocum House is located on the corner of Esther and Sixth streets, next to Vancouver Farmers Market. Opening exhibits

“Culture Smash,” through Sept. 28, is a dual exhibit featuring the art of Jacob Herring and Chris Stevens, with an opening reception from 5 to 9 p.m. Sept. 6. Herring is a Portland-based artist focused on 1980s pop culture cartoon surrealism. Stevens is a mixed-media artist from Vancouver who also goes by the name Pop Octopus; learn more at www.popoctopus.com. Angst Gallery, 1015 Main St., Vancouver. “Oil & Water,” through Oct. 26, with a First Friday reception from 5 to 9 p.m. Sept. 6. This solo exhibit showcases award-winning artist Mike Rangner’s work as he interprets the same landscape in two different mediums, with paintings done in oil and also in gauche. The free opening reception includes light refreshments and a chance to talk with Rangner about his work. Art on the Boulevard, 210 W. “Show Your Colors!” through Sept. 28, is a group show featuring the oil paintings of Northwest Oil Painters Guild members. Bid on an original painting — Cheryl Mathieson’s “Through the Doorway at Steigerwald Refuge” — in a silent auction from now until 1 p.m. Sept. 28. “Kevin Peters: Redefining Past and Present,” through Feb. 15, features art by Nez Perce artist Kevin Peters. His most coveted pieces are traditional works such as quilts, headdresses, and buckskin and rawhide items. His works honor past artists while reflecting contemporary Nez Perce culture.
