Fifth winery set for The Waterfront Vancouver

The Waterfront Vancouver is set to receive what will become the fifth winery to set up shop in the riverside development. Brian Carter Cellars, a winery based in Woodinville, announced on Friday that it will open its first satellite tasting room at The Waterfront.

“We’ve been looking for a second location for quite some time now and put a lot of thinking into this decision,” owner Brian Carter said in a statement. “After our tour of The Waterfront, we were convinced this was the best spot for us to cater to both our Oregon and Southwest Washington clientele.”

The Brian Carter Cellars tasting room and wine bar is set to open in November. It will be located in a 1,233-square-foot suite on the ground floor of the Rediviva building, next door to the Stack 571 burger restaurant on the south side facing the Columbia River.

The space will operate as a tasting room during the day and a wine bar at night, according to a press release, serving small plate items like salads, soups and flatbreads.

The wines served will include Brian Carter Cellars blended wines, which emphasize European-style flavors, along with single varietal wines.

Only one winery is currently open at The Waterfront: The Maryhill Winery tasting room. The Goldendale-based winery opened its new location in the Don building next to the Grant Street Pier earlier this year. But several more are on the way.

Pepper Bridge Winery and Amavi Cellars, both based in Walla Walla, announced in July that they planned to open a joint tasting room at The Waterfront this fall, which will also be on the ground floor of the Rediviva, on the north side of the building. And later that same month, Naked Winery, based in Hood River, Ore., announced that it would open a wine bar in the future Kirkland Tower condo building in 2020.

“The Waterfront is, rather quickly, turning into a premiere wine destination in the Pacific Northwest,” said Barry Cain, president of Gramor Development. The Tualatin, Ore.-based company has served as the lead developer for the waterfront district and owns the Rediviva, Murdock, Don and Jean buildings. “We all know that wine is best enjoyed in a beautiful setting, and I can’t think of a more stunning spot than on the banks of the Columbia River.”

The winery boom isn’t limited to The Waterfront. Another Walla Walla winery, SuLei Cellars, opened a satellite tasting room earlier this year at 613 Main St. in downtown Vancouver.
