Police arrested a 28-year-old man Sunday on suspicion of choking a woman and shooting out her car tire in an apparent case of domestic violence in Southeast Portland.

Someone called police around 2:35 p.m. to the 3700 block of Southeast 166th Place after the incident unfolded. Witnesses pointed out a man driving away from the scene when officers arrived, according to the Portland Police Bureau. Officers stopped the car and arrested Henry F. Edwards Jr.

Police haven’t provided an update about the woman’s condition or specified her relationship with Edwards. Her car tire was shot as Edwards was arguing with her, police said.

Edwards, 28, was booked into the Multnomah County Detention Center on suspicion of unlawful use of a weapon, strangulation, unlawful discharge of a firearm, coercion, interfering with making a police report and second- and third-degree criminal mischief.
