Jane Christensen speaks loud and forcefully declaring that having an abortion any time she wants is her right based on the fact that the outcome (or “product”) of that abortion is not a child but merely a zygote, an embryo, or a fetus. What she fails to note is that the zygote is a human zygote just as the embryo and the fetus are human, as are neonates (newborns), adolescents, and adult women like her.
Many babies are born at 21-22 weeks of pregnancy. According to Christensen, those are only “fetuses” until all goes well and they achieve independence from lifesaving neonatal intensive care units. Tell those parents that their baby might never really be considered a child.
And Christensen claims that “forcing a woman to give birth against her will is barbaric.” Has she ever watched an abortion procedure? It is the most barbaric process ever.
As a retired professor of nursing I understand the processes involved in the development of the human within the womb. As a woman I cherish the ability to nurture the growing baby. And as a human and a Christian I respect the right to life for all humans — zygotes to aged.
