Letter: Reconsider what is essential

If we had to pick 10 essential items for an emergency, would a swimsuit be one of them? A houseplant, doormat, or curtain rods? What does “Stay home, stay safe” mean to you? In my opinion, it is not bringing your newborn baby, children, dog, and grandparents to a business because you’re “bored.”

Please do not call your doctor with your COVID-19 symptoms on speakerphone in a store. Support your favorite businesses by shopping online, buying gift cards, and utilizing curbside pickup. As essential workers, we want to help in emergencies, and help the vulnerable. We want to get back to normal. But we won’t be able to help, and most won’t go back to work to their favorite places if we don’t reconsider what is essential and flatten the curve.

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
