U.S. Navy Hospitalman Cory Creagan, a lifetime Vancouver native and graduate of Mountain View High School, was chosen to serve aboard the USNS Comfort on its assignment to New York City. There it will serve as a hospital for patients not infected with COVID-19, allowing other area medical centers to focus their efforts on the coronavirus. The Navy hospital ship contains 1,000 beds and 12 operating rooms. Creagan was previously deployed aboard USNS Comfort during a five-month humanitarian effort throughout South America and the Caribbean islands from June to November 2019.
Petty Officer Riley Bufford, a graduate of Prairie High School, is one of the first 10 gamers on the U.S. Navy’s first esports team, named Goats & Glory.
“It’s a tremendous honor to represent the Navy on its first esports team,” said Bufford in a recent press release. “This really goes to show the incredible opportunities you can find in the Navy, no matter what your interests are.”
Bufford joined the Navy in 2015 after completing the Joint Cyber Analysis Course to become a cryptologic technician, a position which specializes in communication network defense and forensics.
