March 31, 2020, marked the official end of the 17th “WHO Season” in Clark County. Every year, from November through March, the Winter Hospitality Overflow, or WHO, Shelters at St. Andrew Lutheran and St. Paul Lutheran churches provide 80 beds with support from Share for people experiencing homelessness.
Guests are offered a warm place to sleep, a hot shower, meal, and the welcome and warmth of a caring community working to provide the most basic of human needs. It is entirely staffed by community volunteers, many who represent every corner of the faith community. Catholics, Jews, Muslims, Latter-Day Saints, and more come together to make this shelter possible.
This year has been no exception. The WHO persevered even through COVID-19. In times like this we have been taught to “look for the helpers,” and that could not be more exemplified than by the generous, compassionate, tireless and committed volunteers of the WHO. At Council for the Homeless, we extend our sincerest thanks to these “helpers,” who for the past 17 years have served people without shelter through cold, long, dark nights, ice and snow, and now during an unprecedented global pandemic. We see you helpers, and we thank you immensely.
