What does Mr. Trump consider to be an appropriate federal response to the pandemic? When reports were first received from China, he laughed it off as a “cold” and did nothing. He had already attempted to gut the CDC and deleted the NSC directorate for global health and security and biodefense.
When cases showed up in the state of Washington, he did nothing. Governor Inslee asked for federal assistance, and Trump had the temerity to call him a “snake” because Inslee complained about the lack of response. As reports of deaths in this country were released, Trump did nothing. Now he insists that the federal government is not a “shipping clerk” and that states are on their own to procure supplies and equipment.
Why am I paying federal taxes? I thought it was to provide safety and security, but according to him, this is wrong. Perhaps we should stop paying federal taxes and give it all to the state. I have much more faith in Governor Inslee’s ability and desire to help the citizens of this state than I do in Trump. Mr. Trump calls himself a “wartime president.” Because of his lack of vision and action, he has already lost this war.
