PORTLAND — Three people died in a house fire near Dallas, Ore. early Sunday morning.

Another occupant suffered significant injuries and was transported to a Portland hospital.

Authorities have not identified any of the victims.

The first 911 call came in just after 3 a.m. that a house just outside the Dallas city limits was ablaze.

Multiple fire departments responded. They found three residents of the house who managed to make it out. Two were treated at the scene. The third suffered burns and was taken to a Portland hospital for treatment.

Officials said the fire was too big and too hot for crews to look inside for other victims. “Yeah there was no way, it was fully engulfed,” said Sgt. Mark Robertson, with the Polk County Sheriff’s Department. “Apparently it happened in a matter of minutes. We got there right away and the structure was fully involved.”

Fire crews found the bodies of the three other victims inside what was left of the structure after the blaze was extinguished.

Robertson said the house was not a standard single-residence. It had been divided into multiple units.

There were so many vehicles and first-responders and spectators at the scene, authorities had to close Highway 223, one of the main streets through Dallas, Robertson said.

Dallas is located about 15 miles west of Salem.
