Vancouver police arrested a suspected vehicle prowler Wednesday for allegedly brandishing a weapon at a car owner who caught him in the act.

Officers were dispatched at 12:53 p.m. to the 6300 block of Northwest Lower River Road.

Initial information indicated that the victim interrupted Yuriy V. Nazarenko, 49, breaking into their car, Vancouver Police Department spokeswoman Kim Kapp said.

“When confronted, (Nazarenko) reportedly pulled a gun and told the victim he would shoot them,” Kapp said.

Nazarenko fled in his own vehicle, which was later spotted by police who pulled him over and made an arrest. His vehicle was seized, but police are waiting to obtain a search warrant to search it.

Nazarenko was booked into the Clark County Jail on suspicion of felony harassment, driving under the influence and third-degree malicious mischief.

The victim was not injured, Kapp said.
