Supporters of the #canceltherent campaign Saturday afternoon caravanned to the homes of Vancouver and Clark County councilors to solicit support.

Vancouver resident Cheryl Aichele said people wrote on the windows of their vehicles or waved signs that said #canceltherent and “If we can’t work, we can’t pay.” Aichele said similar demonstrations happened nationwide Saturday. She was unsure how many people took part locally.

The #canceltherent campaign asks that tenants not have to pay rent during the COVID-19 pandemic and that rents are not raised while people try to get back on their feet.

On May 1 (May Day), there is a general strike where people will not work, shop or pay rent, Aichele said.
