If the economy comes back.
If the recession is temporary.
If the virus goes away.
If people return to offices rather than work from home.
The Columbian must be drinking the same Holland Partner Group Kool-Aid as city council and the city planners based on “In Our View: Block 10 work continues our transformation” (The Columbian, July 26). Why else would The Columbian wholeheartedly support taking away a beautiful green space for a building that will never be filled? Is ex-mayor Tim Leavitt sipping from the same drink?
What is wrong with filling the empty office spaces in already existing buildings all over downtown before building new? The ghost town effect on Main Street the editorial mentions is still there, with virus closures not helping. How dare The Columbian call Block 10 “forlorn and desolate”? It was turned into a beautiful little minipark before it became a staging area, and before the 40-foot existing trees and all the landscaping got ripped out! We do not need to be a totally brick and cement city to be vibrant and essential. What’s wrong with green space?
“If” is no guarantee!
