An Oregon man was killed Tuesday when his motorcycle traveled into the path of a tractor-trailer driven by a Vancouver man.

Oregon State Police troopers and emergency personnel responded about 10:15 a.m. to a two-vehicle crash on Highway 101 near Milepost 32, south of Cannon Beach.

The preliminary investigation found that a Harley-Davidson motorcycle, driven by Van Nordquist, 70, of Cannon Beach was traveling south when it failed to negotiate a curve.

The motorcycle crossed into the northbound lane and collided with a Freightliner semi-truck towing two empty trailers, driven by Joshua Mullins, 24, of Vancouver, the news release states.

Nordquist was pronounced dead at the scene.

The highway was closed for nearly five hours. The Oregon Department of Transportation detoured traffic around the crash.

The Cannon Beach Police Department, Clatsop County, Ore., Sheriff’s Office and Cannon Beach Fire Department also assisted.
