Letter: Concerns rise about mail

By Mary McFarland, Vancouver
Published: August 12, 2020, 6:00am

This letter is in response to that of Larry Clifton (“Postal Service falling behind,” Our Readers’ Views, Aug. 8) and others who have addressed this topic. My husband and I have lived in Vancouver for 45 years and have enjoyed mail-in voting since its inception. This year, not so much.

Even though we received a Voters’ Pamphlet, our ballots never came. One week before the election I become concerned and called the county elections office, went down to get replacement ballots and then placed our marked ballots in one of the ballot drop boxes downtown. I didn’t trust the USPS to deliver them on time. Please listen to Mr. Clifton who said, “Something is failing somewhere and it seems to be a story that needs investigating.” By the way, in July it took a birthday card mailed in Portland 11 days to reach me.

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
