Letter: Fire chief thanks voters

By Kristan Maurer, Fire Chief, Clark County Fire District 6, Vancouver
Published: August 12, 2020, 6:00am

We want to thank voters in Clark County Fire District 6 for supporting a recent fire levy lid lift request. As way of a reminder, we serve Hazel Dell, Salmon Creek, Felida, Mount Vista, the fairgrounds, and Lake Shore in west Clark County.

As of this writing, the ballot measure is passing with almost 67 percent of the vote. Funding will be used to hire additional emergency personnel to respond to higher call volumes, improve firefighter training, replace and add apparatus, and earthquake-proof our busiest station in Hazel Dell.

We realize that these are unprecedented times for our community, state and nation. We are sincerely grateful that our community has prioritized emergency services as worthy of their tax dollars. We will continue to report back to you as we complete these public safety improvements thanks to your support.

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
