The Seattle Seahawks and the NFL has stressed the importance of players, coaches and staff members limiting their contact with the outside world during the coronavirus pandemic.

Seahawks’ cornerback Kemah Siverand tried to execute an end run around the strict protocols, got caught and paid the price. The Seahawks cut the rookie after he was caught on video attempting to sneak a female visitor into the team hotel during training camp earlier this week, according to a report.

Siverand, who signed with the Seahawks as an undrafted free agent in May, even had the visitor disguised as a Seattle player.

Players are usually prohibited from having visitors in hotel rooms during training camp under normal circumstances. Having an outside unauthorized visitor in the team hotel, with the highly contagious COVID-19 seemingly lurking everywhere, places the entire team at risk of infection. The Seahawks, who have created a bubble-like environment in camp, really had no choice but to cut Siverand loose.

Siverand, one of three undrafted free agent cornerbacks the Seahawks signed prior to training camp, spent his first two seasons at Texas A&M before transferring to Oklahoma State for the 2019 season. Siverand was facing long odds towards earning a roster spot on the team even if he remained on the squad.
