Weather Eye: East winds to persist as columnist marks 30 years of forecasting

This week is special for me as it was 30 years ago this week in December 1990 that I began to write the Weather Eye column. Always a weatherman and also a writer blended together in an offer by then-Features Editor David Kern, to write about the weather. I mean why not? Everyone talks about the weather.

So, on this weather page three times a week I compose humor and wit and forecasts and follow the weather in stride on a lighter side if possible, with you the reader. I would like to thank the many weather observers around the area for their faithful rainfall reports each month. Also, a big thank you to the thousands who have emailed or written to me over the years. You have given me encouraging words and even some wisdom thrown in as well.

I’m not going anywhere as I will continue to write this column as long as possible. As community support for this newspaper continues, you and I will chat about the ups and downs with the weather either online or in print.

OK, what does the old weather eye see on the horizon? Not much change with east winds persisting. Some cloudiness Saturday, slight chance of a shower. Next week appears we could get back in a “normal” weather pattern with storms moving through every couple of days. Details need to be worked out.

Meanwhile, those winds Wednesday were really howling, weren’t they? Unless you were in a wind-sheltered location, which is the western side of the county, usually. At least the air was mild with highs in Vancouver at 55 degrees, 9 degrees above average. Overnight lows in windy locations remained in the 40s.

We’ll chat again on Sunday, take good care.
