The NAACP Vancouver branch elected a new president, Jasmine Tolbert, on Nov. 21.

Tolbert, who had formerly served a term as the organization’s vice president, will serve as president from 2021 through 2023. She follows former NAACP Vancouver President Bridgette Fahnbulleh.

“I’ve committed myself to uplifting racial equity and liberating marginalized communities,” Tolbert said in a media release Thursday morning. “This work cannot be done alone, and I’m excited to work with many members in the community to move the equity needle forward.”

In addition to her work with the NAACP, Tolbert serves on the board for YWCA Clark County and is a member of Washington State University Vancouver’s Equity Diversity Advisory Board.

Fahnbulleh will serve as chair of NAACP Vancouver’s ACT-SO Committee, which helps foster and promote academic, artistic and scientific prowess among youth of African descent.

Other branch officers elected Nov. 21 include Joseph Hernandez as vice president, Ruby Lewis as secretary and Bryant Enge as treasurer.
