Oregon State Police troopers found six explosive “items,” a stockpile of guns and a stash of illegal drugs in a Scappoose man’s garage over the weekend.

Richard Gundy-Hampton, of Scappoose, was lodged in the Columbia County Jail with bail set at $5 million.

Explosives experts from Oregon State Police and the Portland and Gresham police departments spent the weekend searching Gundy-Hampton’s garage, home and vehicle. They found evidence that Gundy-Hampton was manufacturing explosive devices. They found at least six of them as well the materials needed to make more.

As the search continued and more explosives were found, authorities evacuated 10 neighbors.

The case began Friday when police pulled over the vehicle driven by Gundy-Hampton, who was a person of interest in a Clackamas domestic violence case. Police claim they found evidence of possession of weapons and methamphetamine. They got a warrant to search is residence and vehicle.

As the weekend progressed, the explosives experts removed the devices or disposed of them at the site.

By Sunday, OSP troopers were notifying neighbors they could return to their homes.
