Letter: Impeachment efforts botched

Donald Trump is unfit to be president. He’s juvenile, petulant, self-serving, dishonest and bereft of personal honor. I would like to see him removed from office.

Too bad the Democrats booted their chance. Irony drips off the House managers as they indignantly claim that the Senate isn’t holding a fair trial. Sure, after the House held a kangaroo court excluding any participation by White House counsel. Open and shut.

White House counsel have argued convincingly that this is exactly what the founders feared: a partisan impeachment in which the charges could be filed, and then languish for months. Counsel referred extensively to the Federalist Papers, the best evidence of the thinking of the founders. The House managers of course didn’t. Hmm. However, I’m gratified to know they are such staunch defenders of our embattled allies in the Ukraine. And it’s heartwarming to know that years after President Obama mocked Mitt Romney for suggesting that Russia was the greatest threat to U.S. security, they now agree with Mitt. Who knew?

Whoever leads the next impeachment frenzy, please do it right, and maybe don’t start talking impeachment before the inauguration.
