Vancouver’s Downtown Association seeks artists to submit proposals for two funded projects slated for 2020. “12th & Main Artlet” will install a parklet with artful treatments at a downtown intersection, along with painted crosswalks and bulb-outs and the artful treatment of the blank facade of an adjacent parking structure. “Bike Art Park on Main” will install two bike corrals on Main Street. The bike racks will be custom-designed and incorporate artistic features that celebrate architectural designs from local, historic buildings as well as cultural icons of downtown Vancouver, along with street art murals beneath the corrals. The city of Vancouver invites artists to submit proposals for public art at the Clark County Historical Museum, 1511 Main St., Vancouver. Proposals are due by 3 p.m. Feb. 26. The project’s goal is to create something that demonstrates the museum’s relevance while respecting its commitment to preserving the community’s stories and artifacts. Proposals will be reviewed by the city’s Public Art Committee, in consultation with the museum and the Uptown Village Association. Once a proposal is selected, artwork will be completed and installed within six months. The project’s budget is set at $30,000, including artist’s fees, engineering fees, labor and materials, documentation and transportation to the site. Vancouver Community Library invites creative writers and visual artists to submit original works for “Visions & Voices,” and then to create a response piece to the original work assigned to them. The submission deadline is Feb. 28. There is no cost to submit. Written work may be submitted to vaartteam@fvrl.org, or in person at the library, 901 C St., Vancouver. Art pieces must be submitted at the library. Participants will be notified of acceptance by email, and their response piece will also be sent through email. Pick up an application at Vancouver Community Library, or go to www.fvrl.org; click on Locations>Vancouver, and click on the purple button labeled Apply for Visions & Voices. Oregon Christian Writers seeks writers to enter the Cascade Writing Contest. Entries can be received through March 15. Each entry will be reviewed by three preliminary judges with feedback provided to every contestant. The final three in each category will be submitted to Christian writing and publishing professionals for judging. Winners will be announced at the Cascade Writing Contest Awards at 7 p.m. Aug. 19 at Portland’s Red Lion on the River Hotel. You do not need to be an Oregon Christian Writers member to enter. The Society of Washington Artists seeks artists 18 and older to enter the nonjuried, professionally judged Spring Show and Sale (the largest such show in Southwest Washington), April 30 to May 3 at the Water Resources Education Center, 4600 S.E. Washougal Arts & Culture Alliance seeks vendor artists for the Washougal Art Festival, Aug. 8 at Reflection Plaza in Washougal. The festival is open to visual artists working in all media and is intended for professional artists who are actively producing and exhibiting their work to sell. Entries will be juried on originality, creativity, craftsmanship and professionalism. Artists are selected by a jury of local artists and gallery owners. The deadline to apply is May 1. Sing Here Now welcomes people with early-stage Alzheimer’s or dementia to join this choir, which meets from 10:30 a.m. to noon Feb. 13, 20, 27, March 5 and 12.
