Letter: Vote against corporate corruption

Boeing gave its failed CEO $62 million, though hundreds died from his failure. Purdue Pharma gave the Sacklers billions, though thousands died from their greed. That’s venal corporate mentality, toxicity that permeates corporate party politics, too.

Coal and oil companies hid what their own scientists discovered about fossil fuels and climate change, while collecting corporate welfare and enjoying revolving doors between federal and corporate offices. Electronics companies use child labor for mining minerals for “new” gadgets, so people can watch ads telling them what to ask doctors for and what junk to eat.

Walmart employees earn so little that we must cover their needs with assistance, with stores offering largely Chinese goods, obviously not creating American jobs. Monsanto/Bayer poisons the environment with glyphosate-laden Roundup. And Nestle pumps our water from our commons and sells it back to us in, yes, single-use plastic bottles.

The list goes on and on, but none of this would happen if citizens were paying attention and refusing to be complicit with lies and crimes. 2020 is a year for serious voting. We should vote, intelligently, compassionately, against corporate corruption, with our ballots, and our wallets.

“What do we do when under attack? Stand up! Fight back!”
