Art

The city of Vancouver invites artists to submit proposals for public art at the Clark County Historical Museum, 1511 Main St., Vancouver. Proposals are due by 3 p.m. Feb. 26. The goal is to create something that demonstrates the museum’s relevance while respecting its commitment to preserving the community’s stories and artifacts. Proposals will be reviewed by the city’s Public Art Committee, the museum and the Uptown Village Association. Artwork will be installed within six months. The budget is set at $30,000, including artist’s fees, engineering fees, labor and materials, documentation and transportation to the site. The city will be responsible for site preparation and installation, in consultation with the artist(s). www.cityofvancouver.us/PublicArtCommittee.

Vancouver Community Library invites creative writers and visual artists to submit original works for “Visions & Voices,” and then create a response piece to the work assigned to them. The submission deadline is Feb. 28. There is no cost to submit. Written work may be submitted to vaartteam@fvrl.org, or in person at the library, 901 C St., Vancouver. Art pieces must be submitted at the library. Participants will be notified of acceptance by email, and their response piece will also be sent through email. The Society of Washington Artists seeks artists 18 and older to enter the nonjuried, professionally judged Spring Show and Sale (the largest such show in Southwest Washington), April 30 to May 3 at the Water Resources Education Center, 4600 S.E. Columbia Way, Vancouver. Online registration continues until April 17 or until 200 pieces have been registered. Both 2D and 3D items may be entered. Washougal Arts & Culture Alliance seeks vendor artists for the Washougal Art Festival, Aug. 8 at Reflection Plaza in Washougal. The festival is open to visual artists working in all media and is intended for professional artists who are actively producing and exhibiting their work to sell. Entries will be juried on originality, creativity, craftsmanship and professionalism. Artists are selected by a jury of local artists and gallery owners. The deadline to apply is May 1. Mosaic Arts Alliance seeks artists to submit work for its “Surprise and Delight” exhibit, March 3-28 at Angst Gallery, 1015 Main St., with a First Friday reception 5 to 9 p.m. March 6. Anyone is invited to contribute up to three pieces of original art for the enjoyment of our community. The entry fee is $40. Artwork will be made available for sale, with the gallery retaining a 30 percent commission. Gallery-ready art should be delivered to Angst Gallery from 1 to 2:30 p.m. March 1. Disjecta Contemporary Arts Center invites the public to loan items significant to their spiritual practice for the “Dimensions of the Sacred” exhibit, March 22 through May 3. Anyone can participate. Any object, song or dance can be considered. Items must be delivered to Disjecta, 8371 N. Interstate Ave., Portland, from March 6 and March 8, between noon and 5 p.m. Items will be on loan for the duration of the exhibition. Time-based performances will be scheduled during Saturday gallery hours, depending on the participants’ schedules. All performances will be free and open to the public. Battle Ground Parks & Recreation seeks artists and craftspeople to show and sell their work at the Spring Community Craft Fair, April 4 at the Battle Ground Community Center, 912 E. Sing Here Now welcomes people with early-stage Alzheimer’s or dementia to join this choir, which meets from 10:30 a.m. to noon Feb. 27, March 5 and 12. Writing

Oregon Christian Writers seeks writers to enter the Cascade Writing Contest. Entries can be received through March 15. Each entry will be reviewed by three preliminary judges with feedback provided to every contestant. The final three in each category will be submitted to Christian writing and publishing professionals for judging. Winners will be announced at the Cascade Writing Contest Awards at 7 p.m. Aug. 19 at Portland’s Red Lion on the River Hotel. You do not need to be an Oregon Christian Writers member to enter.
