Letter: President is not presidential

How low is low? On Feb. 4, standing in front of the representatives of the other two branches of our national government, the legislators and the justices of the Supreme Court, and before the American people, our Chief Executive bestowed the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the nation’s highest civilian award, to Rush Limbaugh. Limbaugh is the moral equivalent of Joseph Goebbels, who served as Hitler’s Minister of Propaganda from 1933 to 1945. Two days later, at the National Prayer Breakfast about Unity, the president used the opportunity to scathingly assault his accusers with language that would have required censoring not very long ago.

Like so many concerned Americans, I wonder what it would take to rein this tyrant in. Must we wait until the election in November? If I had access to America’s living past presidents — Carter, Clinton, George W. Bush, and Obama — I would beg them to write a joint op-ed or a letter to President Trump asking him to please, be more presidential.

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
