Letter: Camas principal treated unfairly

I am writing in response to the article “Camas principal on leave following Bryant death comment” (The Columbian, Feb. 6). I wasn’t aware that one gave up one’s constitutional right to free speech and thought when one became an employee of the Camas School District.

Ms. Sejkora did not make these comments in school or in a school publication or to students. She was not making a statement representing her school or the district. She was not threatening violence. She was expressing her opinion in a personal format. Her opinions may or may not have been those of the superintendent or the school board. However, they were hers. I think that the superintendent and the board completely overstepped their authority and I think that they owe her an apology.

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
