Letter: Character, conscience missing

President Trump’s impeachment trial exposed Mitch McConnell, Lindsey Graham, and several other senators as liars like the president. Each senator pledged to impartially hear trial evidence, but McConnell conspired with the president’s defense team to undermine the trial and he, Graham, and others announced their votes prior to the trial. Ethical senators would have disqualified themselves.

Impeachment is like an indictment, but many GOP senators called impeachment proceedings the trial. In a radical cover-up, prosecutors were barred from introducing witnesses and new evidence. Trump has corrupted many senators, but that’s not surprising as almost all who have served in Trump’s swamp are corrupted, corruptible, or fired, including the vice president, Cabinet and attorneys. Trump’s attorneys, Alan Dershowitz and Ken Starr, perverted justice to get Trump’s old partying buddy, Jeffrey Epstein, off with a lenient sentence for sexually exploiting underaged girls.

Lies and foreign influence worked in 2016 and seem to be working again in 2020. Biden’s poll numbers dropped and Trump’s rose slightly. Apparently, Biden’s supporters are concerned about appearances and Trump’s fans have abandoned their moral compasses. Sadly, Trump and the champion Astros, Saints and Patriots show cheating works in America.

Admirably, Sen. Mitt Romney served with character and conscience.
