Letter: Herrera Beutler unresponsive

By Paul E. Mitchell, Vancouver
Published: January 3, 2020, 6:00am

I am writing to The Columbian regarding the lack of responsiveness of our Congresswoman Jaime Herrera Beutler, R-Battle Ground. Three times I have asked her the following question: Do you support taxpayer funding of federal contractors, adoption and foster agencies who discriminate against LGBT persons? I offered that, like abortion, I do not believe that taxpayer funds should be used to discriminate. While I requested a response each time, she has not even acknowledged any of the three submissions.

While I disagree with her on many issues, I have always been respectful of her and her position, she has chosen to disregard my question and has disrespected this constituent. Is this the kind of representation we want in Congress — Republican or Democrat?

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
