Sections of the Waterfront Renaissance Trail from Interstate 5 to Southeast Columbia Shores Boulevard have been closed for maintenance since Dec. 26. Crews have started removing several uneven concrete panels from the path, as well as roots and debris. The work will also include a root barrier to limit future damage.

The trail is scheduled to reopen by the end of January; in the meantime, a detour through the grass adjacent to the paved trail is available.

Sandy Robinson of Vancouver said she uses the trail about once a week and the construction hasn’t bothered her. “It needed it,” she said.
