Letter: Good work from Herrera Beutler

One only needs to get sick or receive a bad diagnosis to understand how important prescription medication can be to preserving quality of life. When the costs of these prescriptions go up, people don’t have a choice — they have to have them.

Rep. Jaime Herrera Beutler, R-Battle Ground, just helped introduce the Lower Cost, More Cures Act to help lower drug costs. This bill caps how much seniors pay annually at a pharmacy, calls for more price transparency at the doctor’s office, and lowers the cost of insulin. Jaime was right when she said “seniors and other patients in Southwest Washington pay too much for prescription drugs.” But she’s not just talking about it — she’s taking real actions to lower costs, and this is just yet another example of her good work.
