The Hawks won a low-scoring battle at the foul line, making 17 of 20 free throws to earn a 2A Greater St. Helens League win at home.

Hockinson went 12 for 14 at the foul line in the fourth quarter to hold on after Woodland pulled within two points midway through the quarter.

“We kept our composure as a team,” Hockinson coach Jon Warner said. “They started pressuring us and caused a couple turnovers.”

Micah Paulsen and Dakota Souders each scored 12 points for Hockinson (5-8, 2-3). Samuel Finklein added eight points, going 6 for 6 from the foul line.

Hockinson held Woodland’s leading scorer Isaiah Flanagan to four points with Carson Yinger largely responsible for locking him down.

“He did a heck of a job being physical,” Warner said of Yinger. “The biggest job is to keep him from catching the ball in the first place. But when he did, he bodied him up pretty well.”

Trey Hanson scored 13 points and Isaac Hall added 11 for Woodland (7-6, 2-3).
