Letter: Congresswoman fails district

As the impeachment drama unfolds in Washington D.C., some sober reflection is called for in Washington’s 3rd District. Is Jaime Herrera Beutler really representing us?

Rep. Beutler voted in lockstep with other Republicans against impeachment of Donald Trump. She was not asked to vote on his guilt or innocence, she was asked to vote on whether there was sufficient grounds to refer an indictment to the Senate for trial.

By his personal and the White House’s own documentation, there’s no question that Trump held back military aid which the Congress had approved. By the preponderance of testimony and corroborating evidence, the release of the aid was contingent on Ukraine announcing an investigation (not conducting, but announcing) of a domestic political rival of the president.

In short, “Ukraine will get the aid the Congress approved when you interfere in the 2020 American presidential election by tilting public opinion against my opponent.”

Herrera Beutler fails in her oath to protect and defend the Constitution when she refuses to make a judgment that the evidence appears sufficient to justify a trial. We didn’t ask if she thought he was guilty, only if there should be a trial. We need to get her gone in 2020.
