The Vancouver Tennis Center would like to see more women and girls enter tennis tournaments.

And with the 34th Annual National Girls & Women in Sport Day set for Feb. 5, the USTA facility in Vancouver has scheduled the VTC Women’s Tournament and VTC Girls’ Tournament for Jan. 31-Feb. 2.

Registration closes on Monday evening.

Entry fee for the girls tournament is $28 for one event or $31 for two. To sign up, go online to tennislink.usta.com and enter Tournament ID 600005620.

The divisions are Girls 12s, 14s, 16s and 18s for singles and doubles.

Entry fee for the women’s tournament is $43.50 for one event or $46 for two. Go online to tennislink.usta.com and enter Tournament ID 600008820.

Divisions are Open, and NTRP ratings from 2.5 to 4.5 in singles and doubles.

The tournaments are also a fundraiser for the VTC tennis scholarship with 10 percent of the entry fees going to the fund that assists young players by giving them access to local tennis activities.

In addition, there will be a tune-up event from 6-7 p.m. on Jan. 31 that features drills, an opportunity to meet new people and try out the VTC courts. Cost to participate is $12.50 and 10 percent goes to the scholarship fund.

The Portland State women’s tennis team, which uses VTC as its home courts, will have an exhibition on Jan. 31 as well.

“We are just trying to make it as fun as possible and hope to make it an annual thing,” VTC head pro Sanja Lemes said. “And connecting it to the scholarship helps even more.”
