Letter: Warmed by King’s legacy

In 2005, I was the principal at Rosa Parks Elementary School in the Lake Washington School District. I attended a conference in Atlanta and was scheduled to return home on Friday but decided to stay two additional days so that I could go to church at Ebenezer Faith Baptist Church, the church of the Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Upon arrival, I was greeted in an incredibly warm, welcoming, friendly manner by many (more than many) of the church parishioners. They smiled, shook hands, introduced themselves, asked my name and where I was from. As I responded, they took a video of me that they then put on a large video screen. As the video played more came to welcome me. When the service ended, I was hugged and thanked for coming, again by many! This was a clear reflection of the influence of Dr. King. I’m 70. In my mind, Dr. King remains the single most important person from our generation. I have a dream. I’m sure that you do, too. Follow your dreams.
